Welcome!

The Translational Affective Science (TAS) Lab is located in the Department of Psychology at Seattle University and is directed by Dr. Eva Dicker.

Using an interdisciplinary and multimethod approach, the TAS Lab is interested in understanding how the impacts of psychological stressors on physiological health can be influenced by emotion regulation, specifically blends and sequences of multiple strategies (Ford, Gross & Gruber, 2019; Gross, 1998). We conduct basic and translational research with undergraduate students and high-stress older adults. We are especially interested in learning how emotion regulation can act as a buffer in the development and progression of age-related decline, such as Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias.

Statement
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential values to the TAS Lab and the Seattle University Department of Psychological Sciences. As a lab, we seek to actively counter prejudice and discrimination. We are committed to treating each other with respect and dignity and advocate for those who experience injustice and oppression. We are committed to equal opportunity in education and employment and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national or ethnic origin, age, disability, or veteran status. We believe that diverse backgrounds and viewpoints, particularly those of people who have been historically underrepresented and marginalized in science and academia, are essential to the work that we do and to creating and fostering an equitable and inclusive field.
